Face Off

Straight Hair v. Fro

This piece captures a deeply personal confrontation—the moment of reckoning between who I was and who I was becoming. On one side, the straight, relaxed hair that once symbolized acceptance and conformity; on the other, the natural Afro, radiant and unapologetic.

For years, I believed beauty—and belonging—were tied to the silky strands of a relaxer. Transitioning to natural hair was a journey of rediscovery, and this visual dialogue reflects the tension and transformation along the way.

Ultimately, Face Off is a reminder that joy isn’t rooted in a hairstyle. True confidence and peace come from within—shining through whether the hair is straight, curly, or somewhere in between.
